A proposal to allow all registered members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vote at constituency and regional levels has been rejected by a great number of members.
The members also failed to endorse the call to allow only constituency executives to vote at the regional and constituency levels.
The ruling party has started a constitutional review process, headed by a former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah. The party is currently undertaking a biometric registration of its members.
A survey conducted by Ephraim Nii Tan Sackey, the Deputy Constituency Secretary for Ablekuma South Constituency, suggested that a number of proposals put forward by the party were accepted by the members. Few were, however rejected.
“There was an overwhelming majority endorsement of the proposal concerning an incumbent President, who contested the election on the ticket of the party, should be entitled to an automatic second term unless he/she declined,” the survey noted.
