Clement Kofi Aidoo, a suspected robber, has been shot dead by police at Danso near Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region.
A police brief on Wednesday said the suspect, also known as Yaw, Paddy and Joseph Abequaye, was shot when he jumped through a window, wielding a sharp cutlass and attempted to attack officers during an operation.
He was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty while receiving care.
The development follows a petition filed on January 30, 2026, by Madam Christiana Frimpong, 77, with the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, regarding a robbery at her Labone residence in Accra.
The petition, also addressed to the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters, called for an investigation into the attack.
Madam Frimpong reported that on December 4, 2025, armed men attacked her in her room, tied her hands and legs, covered her face with a plastic bag, and robbed her of a Toyota Hilux pickup with registration number GW 9834-25, an iPhone 16 Pro Max and other personal effects.
Following investigations, a team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) James Atampuri proceeded to Danso near Bawjiase at about 0130 hours on February 6, 2026, after four days of sustained intelligence gathering.
The team located Aidoo, who, upon seeing the police, allegedly jumped through a window, wielding a cutlass and attempted to attack the officers.
He was shot and critically injured in the process.
His body was later deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
General Sergeant Appiah said that in November 2025, while looking for a house help for his ailing father, he met Aidoo through the KKN Domestic and Recruitment Agency at Bubuashie.
He said Aidoo commenced work at his residence in Kaneshie on November 1, 2025.
His body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
During the operation, police retrieved the stolen Toyota Hilux (GW 9834-25), several documents, and Madam Frimpong’s mobile phone.
They also retrieved a Voter’s ID card and a Police ID card bearing the name No. 48935 General Sergeant Daniel Kusi Appiah. The items have been retained as exhibits for ongoing investigations.
Further investigations led to the invitation of General Sergeant Daniel Kusi Appiah, who is stationed at the Kaneshie Divisional Headquarters, to the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit at the CID Headquarters on February 6, 2026.
He explained that in November 2025, while searching for a house help for his ailing father, he came into contact with Aidoo through the KKN Domestic and Recruitment Agency at Bubuashie.
According to him, Aidoo commenced work at his residence at Kaneshie on November 1, 2025.
However, on November 14, 2025, while assisting his father in seeking medical attention at the Ridge Hospital, Aidoo allegedly fled with his Toyota Camry saloon car (GC 123-12), his Police and Voter ID cards, GH¢12,200 in cash, and other personal effects.
The matter was reported to the Kaneshie Police Station.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Aidoo was a native of Bontroase in the Central Region and that his real name was Joseph Obessi, also known as Paddy.
On January 25, 2026, the suspect was reportedly spotted with the stolen Toyota Camry at Bontroase.
After a police hot pursuit, he abandoned the vehicle in Kojoacquah Village and fled.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
