The Takoradi Government Hospital has received two new incubators at its maternity ward to save the lives of premature babies. The Hospital had been without an incubator for many years, and as a result, babies had to be referred to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, a situation which is said to have led to the death of some babies. The Classy Ladies Club, (CLC Ghana) a Takoradi-based charity organisation, made the donation on Saturday November 19. The gesture was mainly sponsored by Solmed Ghana Limited, an offshore Contract Catering and Hospitality Services company in Takoradi. In addition to the incubators, treated mosquito nets, food items, mattresses, blankets, surgical gloves, a television set and other baby needs, worth about 12,000 dollars, were also presented to the maternity ward. The Managing Director of Solmed Ghana, Kevin Hall said the Maternity Ward of the Hospital would be adopted by his company, whilst the Classy Ladies Club (CLC Ghana) also seeks support from other companies to assist the hospital and other needy institutions. Mr. Kevin Hall said Solmed Ghana has been involved in healthcare issues in Takoradi in the last five years. “The company will also donate a minimum of 1,000 Ghana Cedis every month and that amount will go towards the maintenance of this equipment to sustain this unit. If we need to replace mattresses and other things, we will be there for that. Classy Ladies, which is our arm, will put together a programme where we will try and encourage others to donate. We are going to embrace this Hospital” he assured. The President of the Classy Ladies Club, Ghana, Adriana Marcus-Kwofie, assured the Club’s continuous support to the Hospital. The Principal Nursing Officer at the Takoradi Government Hospital, Madam Irene Aryeh, who received the items, thanked the donors and asked other corporate organisations and groups to emulate the gesture saying the Hospital needed more support in other units. The organisation, which focuses on helping the needy particularly those in orphanages, is made up over fifty young ladies and women, was established in 2007.
