Emmanuel Kwesi Brown, a 27-year old carpenter, has been arrested by the Tema Police Command for allegedly impersonating a military officer.
Brown was apprehended by two naval officers and handed over to the Command when spotted in a military uniform bearing the name of one Ayesu-Gyan, at the Ashaiman Night Market.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Augustine Gyening, Tema Regional Police Commander, in a press briefing, said the naval officers spotted Brown in the uniform terrorizing some people at about 15:30 hours on Wednesday.
ACP Gyening said Brown, who claimed he got the military uniform from Shalom Spot at Lashibi, told the Police that he made a total of GHS45 on his first operation as a military officer on June 24 this year.
The Commander added that, the suspect told him that his second attempt on July 7 this year was not successful, as his victim shouted for help and he bolted.
Upon a search on him, a wedding ring with the inscription ‘J.H’, a kitchen knife, lady’s panty, and a pinch bar were retrieved.
In another development, ACP Gyening disclosed that a suspected armed robber was in the early hours of Thursday shot dead by the Tema Patrol Team on the Tema Motorway.
He said the suspected robber, who is yet to be identified, is believed to be among a gang of armed men, who blocked the Motorway and attacked unsuspected motorists.
ACP Gyening indicated that the man was found in the bush after the suspected robbers engaged the Patrol Team in a shoot-out at about 03:00 hours.
He appealed to the public, especially health institutions, to look out for people, who might report to their facilities with gun shot wounds, since two of the suspects managed to escape during the shoot-out.
The Commander further said the Police also found at the scene, a machete, a car fan belt, and a wooden bar with nails protruding out of it.
He said the robbers normally used logs, stones and sharp equipment to block roads, before carrying out their nefarious activities.
