Tension is said to be mounting in Tsiame, in the Volta region over a planned meeting of some chiefs in the region.
The meeting was called by the Awadada of the Anlo Traditional Area, who is supposed to be the acting paramount chief.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News, the chief of Tsiame, Togbui Shikabli, said the meeting has been called off because of intimidation from a combined team of police and military personnel.
Residents are pointing accusing fingers at the Volta Regional Minister, Kofi Dzamesi and the disputed Regent of Anlo, Togbui Sri II known in private life as Francis Nyonyo Agboada of using the armed security forces to disrupt the meeting and intimidate the residents.
Joy News sources in the area say the presence of the armed personnel is also heightening tension in the area.
An opinion leader of the area told Joy News the police are even brutalizing innocent people in the area.
He said a number of police vehicles stormed the town and suddenly the people had to run for their lives. He said the police and military presence alone was too much to intimidate the people.
“They were armed to the teeth so people were running helter-skelter. I mean their presence alone were intimidating. They only brutalized some two insane guys. Because of that the meeting could not take place,” he said.
