Teshie Oldies FC will officially be crowned champions of the 2012/2013 Retired footballers League this Saturday after an impressive season.
The Teshie based team will be presented the league trophy in a coronation match against a retired player’s select side at the Accra Sports stadium on Saturday.
The Technical director of the Retired National Footballers Association Mr. Sowah Ghartey in an interview with Asempa sports described this season’s league as successful and hailed the veteran players for their impressive display.
“I’m happy with the level of football played throughout the season as Teshie Oldies defied all odds to do the double, winning both the knockout competition and the league,” he told Asempa sports
“My only disappointment is the lack of sponsorship which has been a major hindrance to the smooth running of the league. The league was played in three zones to keep the travelling of the teams within a particular locality due to financial constrains.”
Sowah Ghartey, former Hearts of Oak player who is now a match commissioner pleaded for coperate institutions to come to their aid in the upcoming season.
“If we get enough sponsorship to fund the league I’m sure it will encourage more retired players to come on board which will help them keep fit always.”
