TGS, a global leader in energy data and intelligence, has extended its commitment to community wellbeing with a two-day health and financial literacy outreach in Ngalekyi, a fishing community in the Ellembelle District.

The event, organised through its local subsidiary TGS Ghana, was held in partnership with the Ngalekyi-Baku CHPS Compound and Nzema Manle Rural Bank.

Held under the theme “Eboapa Okyi Nam Pa” (Healthy Nets, Wealthy Shores), the program offered free medical screening and practical financial education to more than 500 residents.

Timed to support activities ahead of World Malaria Day, the event drew strong local participation and backing from the Chief of Ngalekyi, Nana Morkeh Kpanyinli IV, who offered the palace grounds as the venue.

Residents, including over 100 children, were screened for hypertension, blood sugar levels, malaria, and common conditions like eye and ear infections.

Those diagnosed were given free medication, guidance, or referred to the district hospital for further treatment.

On the financial front, many adults opened savings accounts with Nzema Manle Rural Bank, which waived initial deposit requirements to make savings more accessible.

The effort was focused on deepening financial inclusion and building healthy money habits among residents.

TGS Country Director for Ghana, Eugenia Aidoo-Laryea, said the initiative reflects the company’s long-term commitment to impactful CSR in the Western Region.

“This program is part of TGS’s ongoing CSR efforts in Ghana’s Western Region, where we’ve been active for the past four years,” she said.

“A baseline survey conducted by our partners, Stratcomm Africa, revealed limited access to healthcare and low engagement with formal banking in Ngalekyi and surrounding areas. That insight informed our decision to bring essential health and financial services directly to residents.”

To ensure lasting benefits, TGS donated remaining medications and medical equipment — including blood pressure monitors, weighing scales, and test kits — to the Ngalekyi-Baku CHPS Compound for ongoing care.

Ellembelle District Chief Executive, Joseph Agyekum, expressed pride in the program.

“As a native of Ngalekyi and a proud son of the Ellembelle District, I welcome this outreach. I commend TGS Ghana and its partners and pledge my support for programs that bring essential services closer to our people.”

Dr. Augustine Kwesi Amoako, the District Director of Health Services, praised the initiative for aligning with global public health goals.

“This supports three key pillars of the World Health Organisation framework: access to free medication, health financing, and the provision of free services to strengthen communities. I especially value the focus on screening for symptomless diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, which are often overlooked.”

TGS continues to support grassroots programs globally, and feedback from Ngalekyi residents showed deep appreciation, along with a resounding call for more.
