The Minority has expressed concern over what it calls rising insecurity in the country, urging President John Mahama to take immediate action.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, March 3, former Minister for Finance Dr Mohammed Amin Adam lamented the supposed deteriorating security situation, stating that it has emboldened political thugs to terrorise innocent citizens.

He warned that if swift measures are not taken, the country could descend into lawlessness.

Dr Amin Adam criticised the President for failing to act decisively, arguing that security agencies have been rendered ineffective.

“Mr President, the insecurity situation in our country is indeed very worrying. As you refuse to act decisively, the security agencies have become powerless, and this continues to embolden thugs of your party who visit mayhem on innocent Ghanaians daily,” he said.

He also decried recent violent raids on the homes of former public officials, likening them to military coup-style operations that evoke painful memories of Ghana’s past.

The Minority further accused the Mahama administration of selective justice, claiming that while former officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration face harassment and investigations, ex-National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials have been cleared of charges and rewarded with key positions.

“Rather strangely, whilst officials of the NPP administration are being harassed and investigated, former officials of the NDC government who were on judicial trials have been cleared of all criminal charges against them,” Dr Amin Adam stated.

He also alleged that Ghana has become an “Animal Farm,” where justice is applied selectively based on political affiliation.

“Today, we are being told that crime has party colours, and our country has been turned into an Animal Farm where ‘Four legs good, Two legs bad,’” he remarked.

The Minority, therefore, urged the President to act swiftly to restore law and order, warning that continued inaction could destabilise the nation.
