In November 2012, Tigo embarked on a pilot project to understand the role of traditional "Susu" in the Tigo Cash evolution.
Six months down the line, Tigo Cash can boast of over 12% of its customers actively using the "Susu" product to manage their finances.
Tigo Cash currently has over 1,000 agents nationwide actively participating in Tigo Cash "Susu" making it a preferred "Susu" or “Savings” product.
Several traders in Aboabo market in Tamale, explained that they use Tigo Cash "Susu" because they have more control over their savings.
Subscribers can conveniently check how much savings they have anytime and anywhere and also provides them with more security.
In a statement by Selorm Adadevoh, Head of Mobile Financial Services at Tigo, described the Tigo Cash "Susu" as an exciting product for the company, which he said is the first of its kind in Ghana.
He said the company is confident that Tigo Cash "Susu" will transform the savings culture in Ghana in the not too distant future.
Tigo Cash has already won two awards since its introduction. In May this year, it was awarded "Best Mobile Money Service" at the 2013 Ghana Telecoms Award and in February this year, it was also awarded the "Best Mobile Money Product" in West Africa at the Kalahari Mobile Money Awards in Nigeria.
