Ghanaians may not have to look very far away from their plates to find one of the most cost effective and naturally efficient waste treatment mechanisms.Surprisingly it is the tilapia fish, a very popular delicacy.The fish species, feed on human excreta during filtration, leaving the waste cleansed of most of the waste.Former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa believes the country should take advantage of the abundance of the specie in recycling its wastes as a way of minimizing flooding blamed on ineffective waste disposal.Professor Akosa said Ghana must learn from other developing countries where solid and liquid wastes are recycled for productive use.Presently, most waste materials including human excreta is dumped in the open with the attendant environmental hazards for people who live close to dump sites.Listen to the attached audio
