Total Petroleum Ghana Limited (TPGL) has handed over a GH¢130,000 refurbished medical ward to the Ridge hospital at a brief ceremony in Accra.
The refurbishment of the ward is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility as a downstream oil sector to share some benefits with the communities where it operates.
The medical ward which include a surgical unit has been refitted with new electric installation, washrooms, nurses' common room, tiling and replacement of all mosquito nets in the facility.
The medical unit christened Total Ward is aimed at complementing government effort in the provision of healthcare delivery in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director of Total Ghana, Guillaume Larroque said the management and staff are elated by the successful completion of the project which started a year ago.
He noted that the health, education and road safety of Ghanaians are of paramount concern to Total.
Mr. Larroque hoped the project would make a real impact and significantly improve the condition of both patients and staff at the ward.
On his part, the Medical Director of the Ridge Hospital, Dr. Obeng-Apori expressed a hearty appreciation to Total for their dedication and continuous support to improve infrastructure of the hospital.
He assured the management of Total that staff at the medical unit will judiciously maintain the facility to ensure it serves it purpose.
The Medical Director charged the staff to do peer review and employ the preventive maintenance principle in the discharge of their duties to sustain the refurbished facility.
Dr. Obeng-Opori said he would be grateful if other corporate bodies would emulate the Total example to find solutions to the myriad of problems bedeviling healthcare centres across the country.
A plague was unveiled in honor of Total for the refurbishment of the medical ward.
This was done by the Vice President of Total West Africa, Thibault de Langlais together with Dr. Obeng-Opori of the Ridge Hospital.
