The total value of mobile money transactions reached a record GHC 4.5 trillion in 2025.
The revelation was captured in the Summary of Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana on January 29, 2026. The data highlights strong month on month growth, especially in the last quarter of 2025.
The figures show that in September 2025, the total value of transactions rose to GHC 406.9 billion. In October, the value increased further to GHC 434.7 billion, before easing slightly to GHC 420 billion in November 2025. In December 2025, the total value surged to GHC 518 billion.
The figure represents the total amount reported by telecom operators in the mobile money business to the Bank of Ghana, covering transactions from January to December 2025.
Year on Year Performance
In 2022, the total value of mobile money transactions hit GH¢1 trillion. This rose to GHC 1.9 trillion in 2023 and increased further to GHC 3 trillion in 2024.
Provisional estimates from the Bank of Ghana put the 2025 figure at GHC 4.5 trillion.
Reasons
Industry players have linked the growth to more people turning to mobile money for payments. The Bank of Ghana and commercial banks have also intensified efforts to promote a cashless economy.
Additionally, more institutions now accept mobile money as a mode of payment. According to analysts, these developments have contributed to the surge in total transaction value.
Total Industry Performance
Data from the Bank of Ghana shows that the total number of transactions in December 2025 reached 982 million. Active mobile money accounts stood at 26.7 million at the end of December 2025, while active mobile money agents were pegged at 960 thousand in December last year.
