The Volta Regional office of the Ghana Tourism Authority has said it would monitor Easter celebrations at tourist sites to ensure safety.
Mr. Kwame Gyasi, the Regional Manager, told the Ghana News Agency that beaches and waterfalls were most frequented by revellers during the Easter period and charged event organizers to put appropriate measures in place for “accident-free” celebrations.
He said his office had a checklist to ensure that provisions such as rescue and first aid teams as well as emergency exits were made available at the sites.
Mr. Gyasi said the Authority would engage local fisher folks to help in rescue operations at beaches and waterfronts and said adequate information on hospitals and other facilities would also be provided.
He added that regulations on crowd sizes and activities at tourist sites needed to be considered and called for the cleanliness of the venues to prevent the spread of diseases.
Mr. Gyasi said a committee had been set up by the Authority to develop tourist sites and called on the local communities and the private sector to help improve tourism in the Region.
