Tourism Minister, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has allayed the fears of foreign investors and tourists who are attracted to Ghana but scared by the Ebola outbreak.
The disease is widespread in only Liberia, Sierra and Guinea. This is however affecting investment attraction into countries in the sub-region including those currently unaffected by the disease. Speaking at the ongoing World Travel Market fair in London, United Kingdom, Madam Ofosu-Adjare however emphasized Ghana remains safe for foreign investments.
“Ebola is not a West Africa thing but a serious disease affecting the whole world. As we speak, Ghana doesn’t have it, we don’t hope to have it and even in the unlikely event that we do [have it], we have put in place measures to contain it. It’s safe to be in Ghana. Our safety and security has always been a plus in our quest to attract investments and tourists,” she said.
She added that measures have been instituted to ensure Ghana remains an Ebola-free country.
“Once you get to the airport, you are screened to ensure there are no signs and symptoms of Ebola. We have further built isolation camps and Ghana has been made the country where we keep the logistics to even supply some West African countries. We also have medical personnel ready standing by to ensure that in the unlikely event of an outbreak it would be contained. So Ghana for now is Ebola-free and we hope going forward we would remain same. And the West African countries affected by the disease I’m sure would soon come out of the woods because all hands are on deck to curb this menace” she concluded.
The World Travel Market fair is aimed at increasing tourism trade deals, international networking with travel professionals, buyers and providing travel business intelligence. This year’s event kicked off on Monday 3rd November and is due to end on 6th November, 2014.
