The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday fixed October 27 to November 17 for transfer of votes and appointment of proxies for Election 2008.
The EC, in a statement to the Ghana News Agency, directed all voters wishing to transfer their votes to appear in person, show evidence of residing in their present constituencies for not less than two months to the date of the application.
The statement signed by Mr Kwadwo Sarfo-Kantanka, EC Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, said bulk or group transfer would not be administered and political parties or organisations are forbidden from taking the transfer on behalf of a voter.
The EC would also not entertain transfer to adjacent constituencies and within a metropolis or a municipality.
The EC’s directives on proxy voting is in place to ensure certain recognised bodies – members of the security agencies on a United Nations mission, staff of Ghana’s foreign missions and other international organisations, students on government scholarship abroad and Muslims undertaking a Hajj - qualify for bulk proxy
The application for both transfer and proxy votes would be processed at EC district offices across the country.
The commission therefore directed all to comply and assist the EC to make the process incident free.Source: GNA
