Two police officers and two staff of the East Mamprusi Community Bank, have been shot and killed at Gbentri near Gambaga in the Northern Region.
Gbentri is a farming settlement in the East Mamprusi District of the region.
The police officers and the two staff of the bank - a driver and a banker - were returning from a market at Gbentri, where they had gone to collect the daily contribution of the market women.
They were ambushed on the Gambaga-Gentri road and killed by the armed robbers, who only made away with police guns and ammunition.
"They did not take any cash", said ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, Police Public Relations Officer for the Northern Regional Police Command.
Police have not given any indication of leads to the perpetrators of the crime that happened on Thursday.
ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the bodies of the two police constables, whose names have been withheld, and the two staff of the community bank have been deposited at the morgue.
In a related development, the Manhyia Divisional Police Command in Kumasi has expressed worry over what it says is the alarming crime rate in communities around the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
90 percent of almost 60 robbery cases recorded in the in the Manhyia Divisional Police Command since January this year have occurred within the university enclave.
