The Agona Swedru Magistrate Court has remanded two students out of three into prison custody for two weeks for assaulting a student of the Awutu Obrachire Senior High School on Thursday 19, February, 2026.
The incident occurred during an inter-school sports game held at Swedru School of Business.
The pleas of the two accused persons, Benedict Appiah and Bilal Mamid, both aged 18 years, were not taken, and they would be re-arraigned before the court on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit the crime of assault and the commission of the crime of assault.
A third student, Joseph Aidoo, who was in the dock with them, was freed after he pleaded with the court for forgiveness.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Cosmos Afadzie, told the court presided over by Mr Victor Kusi that the two accused persons violently assaulted a student of the Obrachire Senior High School during the inter schools sport games.
Inspector Afadzie said the video of the assault on the victim went viral, attracting the attention of the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP (Mrs) Lydia Yaako Donkor in Accra, compelling her to visit the Swedru School of Business, to meet its management.
He told the court that during the visit, the Director of CID ordered the Headmaster of SWESBUS, Mr Kojo Frempong, to produce the students involved in the violent clash to the police, or the police would be forced to use other means to arrest them.
The prosecutor said that, pursuant to the order, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, three students of SWESBUS were handed over to the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
