The Upper West Regional Police Command has announced the successful arrest, prosecution, and sentencing of a suspect involved in a series of motorbike robberies in the region.
The convict, 20-year-old Nawaf Abdulai, was apprehended following a robbery incident which occurred on 6 March 2025.
Abdulai, along with an accomplice, Awal Abass who remains at large reportedly robbed victims of two motorbikes, a Haojue and a Luojia, bearing registration numbers M-21-449 UW and M-17-4607 UW, respectively.
A swift police response led to Abdulai’s arrest at his residence on 8 March 2025. During the subsequent investigation, he confessed to the crime.

The matter was brought before the Wa Circuit Court, where proceedings culminated on 7 April 2025 with a decisive ruling.
His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo, presiding over the court, sentenced Abdulai to 15 years' imprisonment, underscoring the judiciary’s resolve to impose strict penalties for criminal activity and maintain public order.
The police have released the convict’s photograph, citing his legal conviction as justification under Ghanaian law.
“The court’s decision brings closure to the case and serves as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar activities,” the police statement read.
The Upper West Regional Police Command lauded the diligence of its officers and the cooperation of the general public in ensuring the successful prosecution of the case.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the region and urged continued community collaboration.
Efforts remain ongoing to apprehend the second suspect, Awal Abass. The police have encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
