President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, has cautioned African nations against aligning with Russia, warning that the Kremlin’s ambitions could soon extend its reign of terror to the continent.
Addressing a question by JoyNews at the 3rd International Conference on Food Security on Africa’s continued ties with Moscow, the Ukrainian leader criticised what he described as dangerous support for Russia.
He argued that it is unjust for African nations to emerge from colonialism only to be subjugated by another power.
“It is wrong to be liberated from one form of colonialism only to fall under Russia’s control,” he said.
He added that accepting Russian support or largesse poses a significant threat to the security and stability of African countries.
President Zelenskyy stated that Moscow’s intentions were not altruistic but rather designed to destabilize and compromise the sovereignty of its allies.
His warning comes amid growing global concern over Russia’s influence and actions, which have had far-reaching consequences for security and economic stability across the world.
