Zuweratu Awal, 16, a form two pupil at Tepa JSS ‘B” was last Tuesday shot and killed by her uncle, Alidu Issah, 28 with a locally-made single-barrelled gun at Kruboa near Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District of Ashanti.
The body has been deposited at the Tepa district hospital morgue for autopsy whilst the suspect, a farmer, is in police custody assisting in their investigation.
According to the District Police Commander, ASP Nicholas Opare Ofosuhene, the deceased who stayed with the mother and the suspect in the same house, took offence when the mother, Tariatu Awal, 39, reprimanded her for not sleeping in the house for the past three days.
ASP Ofosuhene said when the mother asked the deceased to sweep the compound of the house she refused with the pretext that she was going to toilet.
He said some few minutes after the deceased had left for toilet, Issah opened his door and headed towards the toilet but later returned to the house and took his gun.
The Police Commander said some few minutes later, there was a gunshot and when people rushed to the scene, they saw the body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood with Issah standing by.
When he was questioned, he confessed killing the deceased, explaining that he spotted a cheetah at the spot and shot it but when he went to collect it, it turned to be the body of the deceased.Source: GNA
