Coach Diego Aguirre says Uruguay will go for the “brook” when they come up against Ghana in a crucial last Group game that determines who stays at the summit of the table at the Ismialia Stadium on Friday.
A draw will take Ghana to seven points and a point richer than Uruguay but the South American coach has his sight set on more than a point to overtake Ghana for the apex of the table which he says will boost their chances in the next round of the competition.
He told GNA Sports in Ismialia that his team’s dream of topping the group is non-negotiable and that they will travel every length to fulfil that desire.
“Ghana is a very good team but on Friday we will fight to get all the points that will send us to the top of the table.”
Coach Aguirre pitches Ghana and Uruguay on the same field of strength and believes the African Champions will give them their toughest game yet in the tourney.
He said he has little knowledge on the Satellites who have bagged six points so far after beating Uzbekistan and England but insists the little he knows about Ghana underscores their threat and that it will be naïve to tag his side as favourites.
“Ghana is very good and I cannot say we will start as favourites. I have little information on them (Satellites), but the little I have seen is convincing enough to know their capabilities.”
The coach said his side has been together for almost two years and against Ghana, they will explore all experience at their disposal in search of a win that will put them on nine points and enrich their chances of meeting a weaker second placed opponent at the next stage.
“We have been together as a team for almost two years and are very prepared for the tournament. We are thinking about the final and that means beating every team all the way up.”
