The US Ambassador to Ghana, Gene A. Cretz has donated educational materials worth forty thousand dollars ($ 40,000) to the Guani M/A Primary school in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern region.
Gene Cretz who paid a visit to the alleged ‘witches’ camp in the region donated the items to the school after he heard about their plight.
The school which was established to provide education to children of alleged ‘witches’ faces furniture as well as infrastructure problems that impede the smooth operation of its duties.
Out of a total of 695 pupils, 320 of them mostly in the lower primary sit on the floor during teaching periods while the remaining 375 pupils in the upper primary are paired in three or four in dual desks joined together.
The head teacher of the school, Mr. Emmanuel Awenyefia said lack of adequate infrastructure has prevented the school from admitting more pupils into the school.
He added that several reports have been made to the Municipal Assembly adding that the circuit supervisor was aware of the situation.
Chief Executive Officer of the Yendi Municipal Assembly, Issa Zecharia, in his response to the issue said the Assembly has contracted someone to produce dual desks for schools in the community.
The head teacher who was delighted about the ambassador’s presentation thanked him and said his visit was a great one.
