The Curator of the Aburi Botanical Garden, Mr Richard Agyakwa Forson, says residents in the Aburi vicinity have turned the garden into a thoroughfare, traversing the garden to other places in the Aburi area.
This he says has become a major headache for the garden’s management as the peace and tranquil of the garden is often broken by the sound of loud engines from vehicles and motorbikes.
This, he says has also made the area less attractive for tourists who have made several complaints about the invasion of the garden by motorists.

Speaking to JoyNews, he mentioned that attempts to get the residents to halt their use of the garden as a thoroughfare has proved futile.
Mr Forson thus called on the government to support them put a stop to the occurrence as it threatens the sanctity of the gardens.

“Residents have turned the gardens into a thoroughfare, using it as a road or route to other places, some even use cars and motorbikes, it’s not nice at all, tourists always complain. Authorities and other stakeholders should help us on this,” he said.
He noted that as the Yuletide approaches, all necessary security precautions are being put in place to ensure the safety of tourists and other visitors to the garden.
Mr Forson added that the garden remains a go-to location for unwinding and relaxation.

“Despite the challenges, we have put the gardens in a safe and conducive atmosphere for all patrons and programmes this coming Yuletide,“ he stated.
