Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has emphasised the need to address all issues regarding Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling on the Parliament's vacant case for the benefit of the Ghanaian public.
Her remarks came in response to a contention raised by one of the counsels from the Attorney General's office concerning the services of Members of Parliament (MPs).
The Chief Justice stated, “For the benefit of the public and this nation, it is important to address the facts surrounding that matter.”
She further elaborated, “There has been a circular since 2021 regulating the services of Members of Parliament."
"The Speaker of Parliament invited me as Chief Justice to discuss the return to that regulation. I reviewed what my predecessor had done and issued the circular.”
Wednesday’s hearing featured legal practitioners from the Attorney General's office and the Supreme Court, along with counsels representing the plaintiff, Speaker Alban Bagbin, as they examined various complaints related to the speaker’s suit.
