Economic Adviser to the Vice President, Prof Shariff Mahmud Khalid, has urged multinational companies operating in Ghana to dedicate their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to support the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
He proposed that companies commit their CSR resources to this national cause for at least two years, noting that such a collective effort would significantly bolster government interventions in addressing the environmental and social challenges associated with galamsey.
"I think that the Multinationals ought to come. We are calling for a state of emergency, as part of the tough, draconian measures we are calling for, can we, for the next two years, say they should channel their corporate social responsibilities to fighting galamsey," he suggested.
