Ghana Anti-corruption Coalition (GACC) has called for a speedy passage of the Conduct of Public Officers’ Bill to be passed into law, for immediate implementation.

According to Florence Dennis, Executive Secretary of the anti-graft body, the implementation of the law will check unwarranted conduct of public officers as well as corruption in government.

The Conduct of Public Officers’ Bill, which was approved by cabinet and expected to check corruption among public officials, is awaiting parliamentary approval. When passed, the Bill will give legal backing to the code of conduct launched by president John Mahama in July 2013.

It is also expected to coordinate anti-corruption legislations in the country and harmonize its dispensation.

Ms Florence Dennis made the comments on Joy FM, Friday, moments after government announced the dismissal of Deputy Communications Minister, Victoria Hammah.

Even though no official reason was given for her dismissal, it is suspected the dismissal was as a result of a leaked tape.

A voiced purported to be that of the deputy minister was heard harshly criticising a colleague Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Rachel Appoh, for attempting to fight the Minister, Nana Oye Lithur.

According to the voice, it was unreasonable for Ms Appoh, a neophyte in politics to take on Nana Oye Lithur, who has a huge reputation and whose husband, Tony Lithur, is a friend to President John Dramani Mahama.

“…I told Rachel that I really understand politics...I will not quit politics until I make one million dollars. If you have money then you can control people,” a part of the tape said.

Information Minister, Mahama Ayariga in a one paragraph statement said, "His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has relieved Ms. Victoria Hammah, Depuy Minister Communications of her post as Deputy Minister."

Speaking on the Super Morning Show however, Ms Florence Dennis expressed concern about leadership particularly, those appointed to political leadership whose sole intention is to acquire money.

"If somebody comes [into office] and thinks about how she can acquire wealth, then the issue about assets declaration comes into being...where people [will] declare their assets when they come into office and when they are leaving office they [are compelled to ] declare their assets".

These she noted, will help curtail the incidences of corruption and promote the efficient use of resources in the development of the nation.
