Music legend Ebo Taylor, who has over six decades of experience in music, picked up the Life Time Achievement Award at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards - The Industry Awards.
The musician was one of personalities who were awarded at the Industry Awards, which came off at the Alisa Hotel Saturday night.
The Industry Awards precedes the main Ghana Music Awards night which comes off May 3 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The Industry Awards honour some distinguished personalities in the music industry who have excelled over the past year. Unlike the main awards, the Industry Awards categories are not voted for by the general public.
Ebo Taylor, born in 1936, has been, and still is, one of Ghana's finest guitarists, composers and band leaders. He started what would become an illustrious music career in 1962, recording with several music greats including Pat Thomas and CK Mann.
He told Myjoyonline.com after the awards that, his career is still flourishing because he "learnt his music well - academic instructions. I was in school most of the time and I also taught at the University of Ghana imparting some of my knowledge to younger musicians and I think that is what everybody has to do."
Sharing his thoughts on the music industry today, Ebo Taylor said, "Musically, I think as a business, it has improved because now we have awards, we have the copyright association, we have a promising musicians union. In my days we didn't have that. I think seriously there must be academic dimension to it."
His advice to the current crop of musicians is that, "they have to learn more music as a subject [and] they have to master it." He also urged that musicians must learn some music instruments especially the piano.
Ten category awards were presented at an event that was attended by several musicians and industry experts.
Some of the personalities at the event included Dzifa Abla Gomashie, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Chief Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International Magazine; Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour), Musicians Union of Ghana president; Ben Brako, Efya, D-Black, and Kwabena Kwabena.
The event also witnessed some thrilling performances from Tamale-based Densi, OJ, and M.anifest.
