It has been one of the biggest controversies over the last week. It started with a statement by the Attorney General's office, and that sparked a storm, and so we said, on the back of the latest press conference by the Attorney General, to add a bit more meat to his earlier, very brief press statement. We did a bit of digging.
And this is a story that we covered quite extinct with the time it was happening in between 2017 2018 and a lot of the facts have become pretty hazy, and so we need to track that and understand where we are currently and why we are where we are, but also understanding what really are the resolutions and what are the various parties role in trying to come to a conclusion that is ultimately beneficial to this country?
One of the first things we noticed as we began to pore over the court documents that we've applied for, we secured additional documentation, the only very original KPMG report on this matter is that there was initially a lot of confusion about how much exactly was involved here. And once I go through that, you understand why the Attorney General has arrived at where he has arrived at now with a significantly reduced amount.
The first big figure that we saw was GH¢4.9 7 billion. And this was a figure that was pegged by the administrator at the time, who was appointed on May 31 2018. The administrator then transitioned to become the Receiver, so the same person, doing the job. The first thing KPMG did was to identify GH¢4.9 7 billion. And then they did some further work. And the GH¢4.9 7 billion quickly became GH¢5.7 billion by May 2018. That is the amount that you had a lot heard a lot about, but that is not where it started.
