Director of the Golden Movie Awards scheme, Mimi Adani Michaels, says the winners of the Awards will never be decided by the public.
The award scheme, which honours movie makers in Ghana and some West African countries including Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, will this year have North African countries featuring.
According to the director, the incoming African Cup of Nation will delay this year’s event as its preliminary date seems to clash with the soccer tournament.
When MzGee asked if the Awards will involve the public via votes, Mimi answered in the negative.
“We can never. It’s solely going to be a performance-based Awards till ‘thy kingdom’ come because, we believe that fans are always bias and so the right film might not win,” she said.
“Somebody will vote for Nadia Buari because they love Nadia Buari not because Nadia Buari’s film was good or Nadia was good in the film but just because I love Nadia or just because I love Nikki Samonas or Lilian Esoro and that’s it. I don’t care about the film that will not help us, it needs to be properly judged by professionals,” she added.
This year’s event is expected to take place either in July or early August.
Organisers are poised to have their nominee announcement in Uganda.
