Police officers have been dispatched to the residence of the Director General of Police Human Resource and Administration to enforce a house arrest sanction slapped on COP Patrick Timbillah.

The interdicted Commissioner of Police has been implicated in a massive police recruitment fraud that hit the country last week.

Text messages intercepted by a special police taskforce set up to investigate the fraud show a trail of conversation between the interdicted police chief and some victims of the fraud.

Director General of the Police Public Relations DCOP David Ampah-Benin who broke the story in an exclusive interview with Joy News said Timbillah has been put under house arrest and would not interfere with subsequent investigation.

Joy News' Kwetey Nartey found the residence of Timbillah located just around the State House in Accra and reported of some barricades just at the precincts of the residence.

Three armed police personnel were also on guard at the residence.

It is not clear how long the Police Commissioner will be kept under house arrest but DCOP Ampah-Benin said investigation will continue.

Over 200 young men and women who paid hefty sums of money to middle men, last week besieged five regional police training schools with fraudulent admission letters ostensibly  to begin a career in policing.

They had gone there with their trunks and other personal effects ready serve the nation.

But their dreams were shattered and some arrested in what became the biggest police recruitment fraud case recorded in the country's history.

An amount of one million cedis is said to have exchanged hands in the fraud.

Timbillah irony

Shortly after the scandal broke COP Timbillah in his capacity as the Director General of Police Human Resource and Administration organised a press conference and swore to nail all involved in the scam.

He said recruitment into the police service is not like buying groundnut by the road side where anybody at all and without any procedure buy the nuts.

He said recruitment into the police service is thorough adding the so-called victims of the scam will be treated as suspects.

Barely a week after his press conference he has been interdicted and put under house arrest for the same offence, he so vehemently spoke against.

Even though he has denied the claims against him Ampah Benin said he is likely to be charged and prosecuted after a thorough forensic investigation.

Already two junior police officers are among seven suspects already arrested. The police administration is continuing with investigation.
