The Volta Region Police Command is to petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Alhassan over an invitation it wants to extend to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkwanta North, John Oti Bless.
According to the police, the MP is implicated in the recent riot in Nkwanta North by some youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in protest of the President John Mahama’s nomination of Paul Levin Gyato as District Chief Executive (DCE).
The NDC youth vandalized party property and burnt at least five state vehicles. Although some of the youth have been remanded in police custody others are still at large.
But honorable John Oti Bless has denied any wrong doing and has accused by the district Bureau of National Investigation officer of playing an active role in the chaos that ensued.
However, Speaking on Citi News Tuesday, the Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP Fred Agyepong-Asare stated emphatically that the Nkwanta North MP is guilty of the charge.
"We believe the MP has a hand in all these that went on so we need him to assist in investigations" he added.
Volta Regional Police Commander disclosed that they have recommended to the IGP to write to the Speaker of Parliament to release the MP to them.
He explained that the petition to the IGP is necessary because the police cannot arrest an MP without the permission of Parliament.
ACP Agyepong-Asare stressed that the law is no respecter of persons therefore the police will deal decisively with anybody found guilty.
