The three-weeks voter exhibition exercise has ended Sunday with low turnout in many polling stations across the country.
The exercise was to afford prospective voters in the 2016 elections the opportunity to verify their names and help clean the register.
But the exercise was blighted by low turnout and apathy, Joy News correspondents have reported.
Kwasi Debrah who was reporting from one of the polling stations in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region said out of some 600 voters only 192 voters had come to verify their names during the three week exercise.
The story is no different from the Upper West Region from where Rafiq Salam reported.
Speaking to Joy News, Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission Eric Kofi Dzakpasu said the exercise has ended on a rather slow note.
The exercise was "dogged by apathy and lack of interest" he confirmed.
He did not say what may have accounted for the low turnout. He stated however that the Commission will conduct a thorough review of all the figures generated from the exercise in order to have a comprehensive understanding of what went on.
Asked if the Commission is contemplating an extension of the date to allow more people to verify their names and to help clean the register, Mr Dzakpasu said he doubted if any such decision will be taken.
He explained that the exhibition exercise had in the past taken only ten or 14 days to conduct but the 2016 edition took 21 days.
He wondered why the citizens failed to take advantage of the additional days. He however added the Commission will review the entire exercise and take a final decision.
