The Volta regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa has challenged personnel of the Customs and Immigration Service to work assiduously to achieve better results.
He said there are a lot of unapproved routes into the country that negatively affects revenue collection and charged them to rectify the situation.
The Regional Minister made these remarks when he paid a surprise visit to the Aflao and Segbe border in Ketu north of the Volta region.
The visit was to have firsthand information on issues concerning revenue at the two borders.
In the course of his interaction with some personnel, he was told of the leakages in revenue collection which needed the attention of government.
Dr Letsa suspected the leakages may have come from the use of unapproved routes by people who are determined to evade payment of custom duties.
"We need these monies to fulfil the promises made to the people of Ghana [which means] all unapproved routes must be checked," he said.
The Minister promised government's unflinching support for the immigration and the customs personnel to ease their work.
Commenting on the Segbe border located at Ketu north district, he said he would make sure that the a well layout border post is constructed to facilitate their work.
"I will recommend to GRA for a well layout post to be constructed for the Segbe border to aid their work, " he said
He also urged the immigration service to collaborate with the Customs division for effective collaborative work to raise the revenue of the country.
