MP for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah is calling for the dissolution and restructuring of the senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana.

This follows the team's inability to qualify from the group stage in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, the legislator decried the team's depleting form and called for immediate steps to remedy the situation.

In his view, the Stars' lackluster performance was due to a poor selection of players, and thus the team should not face Nigeria in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

"Now you must have a godfather to be invited into the national team, no matter how talented you are. That is why we need an enquiry into the selection process to the national team.

Mr. Speaker, there's a problem with player selection, and that ought to be investigated by the managers of our football. Ghana wants to be seen as a country that is into football, but now we are not. Because we go to tournament and earn one point, with all the support from government. One point; abysmal. We must take a second look at our national team and find out why some of these players are refusing to join our national team.

If need be, dissolve our national team, and prepare our national team for the next 5 years, so that we don't waste our time in playing Nigeria in the next World Cup qualifier. Because look at the team Nigeria has even though they're out of the tournament. But I don't think with the current set up, we can stand the Nigerians", Patrick Yaw Boamah stated.

In expressing his grievances, the MP also added that, "Mr. Speaker, there's also an issue of player discipline. You can't build a national team where certain players feel they're superior, they can break camp rules and you expect to get better results. You won't get it. All over the world, you must respect the coach and camp rules. People go to camp and do anything anyhow and they expect to win. You cannot. Football has changed. Mr. Speaker football has changed. It has become very technical. And you have to be disciplined".

Patrick Yaw Boamah made these comments during a discussion by the members of Parliament on the performance of the Black Stars in the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

After losing their first game to Morocco, the Stars drew in their next game with Gabon, and lost their final group C fixture against Comoros.

Finishing at the bottom of the group, scores of Ghanaians chastised the team and called for the coach, Milovan Rajevac to be sacked.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association is reportedly concluding processes to part ways with the Serbian gaffer, Milovan Rajevac.
