The Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) says it has no idea about a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between filmmakers in Ghana and India.
Last month, Mike Ocquaye Jnr, Ghana’s High Commissioner to India, made a revelation about MoU between Ghana and India at the premiere of an Indian stage play, ‘Niyati’ at the National Theatre.
In an interview with JoyNews’ Becky, the High Commissioner mentioned that the collaboration with Bollywood is important in strengthening Ghana’s film industry.
According to him, entertainment ‘conquers’ the world and greatly boosts the image of a country, hence, the need for this partnership.
However, an interview with Hitz FM’s Nana Qwame Larbi, Nana Yaa Sarfo, PRO of FIPAG said the association was not formally informed about such an agreement and all attempts to get more insight about this agreement have proved futile.
“FIPAG knows nothing about the MoU. We heard it but we don’t know who and who signed the agreement. We found out about it on the internet. In fact, I have been trying to find out where and how it happened but nobody is answering me,” she said.
Recently, the President of the Ghana Actors Guild, Sammy Fiscian, who spoke on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, also said the Guild was clueless about any such agreement.
