It's Thursday, so we have another Message from a Listener. This was written by KMG, and sent to us by Bright Gavu. It's called "We Were Once Like You"
--------------------------
Everyday will not bring with it good memories
Especially when the side of a cemetery is your thoroughfare
And memories of departed loved ones continue to linger in your mind
It is amazing how I never saw that signage driving pass the Osu Cemetery everyday
It is enlightening thinking about the subtle truths the dead whisper to the living everyday
"Remember! We were once like you"
I wish this phrase will pass with little thought
But as I walk and talk and daily interact with humankind
I realize that we are here today but no more tomorrow
Six feet is gradually becoming three feet
And burial grounds are now in layers
The dead find comfort resting on top of each other with no conflicts
While the continue living fight over trivialities
"Remember! We were once like you"
We are but dust if not for the breath of God
Our near death experiences open our eyes to our frailties
So why do we behave like super humans?
When did pride become our chewing stick?
Why do we look down on another at every opportunity?
Who do we really think we are?
Look under your feet and see the dust
That's you without breath
And listen to those who have gone ahead of you as they continue to whisper
"Remember! We were once like you"
I cannot imagine the niceties of the afterlife
My best bet is my Sunday School stories
But I think they keep talking to us
What are you waiting for?
Give a hug and lend a shoulder
Cry when you need to and don't hold back
Love deeply and give your all
Forgive your past and look to the future with hope
Make merry and enjoy yourself with loved ones
Because you don't want to regret when you become dust
Always remember! We were once like you
