Residents of Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region were left in shock when a church building collapsed, killing over 20 members of the Church of Prosperity.
Rescue operations by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), police and military retrieved 30 persons. 22 were declared dead while eight others received treatment.
The incident prompted architects to urge building inspectorates in the district assemblies to regularly assess structures in their jurisdiction to avoid a similar catastrophe.
The electoral commission announced the list of presidential candidates whose nominations have been accepted to enable them contest the December elections. The qualified candidate include 3 women and nine men.
They are, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Ms Brigitte Dzogbenuku of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP).
The rest are Madam Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Mr Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Mr Asiedu Walker, an independent candidate; Mr Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), Mr David Apasera of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Mr Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).
The disqualified candidates include independent candidates Kofi Koranteng, Marricke Kofi Gane, Akwasi Odike of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Kwesi Busumburu of the People’s National Party (PNP) and the United Front Party’s (UFP) Agyenim Boateng.
The Joy Ballot Box was in the Upper East region. Residents there mentioned improved roads, provision of health facilities and infrastructure as the major factors which would influence their votes.
Some residents in the Ashanti Region asked for increased police patrols after reports of some armed men terrorized some residents in the capital, Kumasi.
But Police says it is making significant progress in tracking down the gunmen.

The country’s Vice president promised justice for the victims who were shot at the Lekki toll gate in the commercial hub Lagos.
Nigerians here in Ghana are however not impressed.
Meanwhile, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the protesters to leave the streets as their 5-point demands will be addressed while warning that activities of hoodlums will not be tolerated.
