Women of Wisdom, a gender advocacy group, has appealed to women to keep on fighting for equal rights wherever they find themselves.

The group made the appeal as part of events to mark World Women’s Day, Tuesday.

“Accomplished women in the society must see the disparity and feel indebted to the society as we continue to speak and fight against rape, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, domestic violence and other vices against women,” the advocacy group said in a release.

Women of Wisdom also urged women to take up leadership positions to encourage young girls to excel and also to champion the rights of women.

Women over the years have become lost in a perpetual state of being cheerleaders for our male counterparts.

Many women find it difficult to appreciate themselves because society puts pressure on them to be completely selfless. Any attempt at self- nurturing and self- love is condemned, eliciting accusations of been selfish and narcissistic, of not being an adequate wife, mother, or even an adequate woman.
No woman wants these labels so many comply and become cheerleaders for men never appreciating themselves.

Sadly, some women's lives become as futile as a child's attempt to capture the entire ocean in his sand bucket.

As we celebrate Women's day today, we strongly appeal to each one of us to continue the fight for equal rights for which the suffragettes blazed a trail more than a century ago.

We feel really saddened by the fact that we are not thousands that we are not tens of thousands, millions of women walking throughout the world to say the time has come for us to really have gender equality.

Accomplished women in the society must see the disparity and feel indebted to the society as we continue to speak and fight against rape, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, domestic violence and other vices against women.

Let us remember that around the globe there are women delivering babies today. Those girls that have no access to healthcare, to reproductive health protection, no access to resources etc.  Lets have a moment to reflect on that.

Let us pause and think about the many refugees who have trekked hundreds of miles to find safety, many of them mothers, forced to carry their children from one danger zone to the next.

We are not just celebrating the day for celebration sake but let us encourage ourselves to keep this fire burning, this flame to illuminate the disparity to understand that there's so much disempowerment globally.
We need more women in leadership positions across the globe to create a sympathetic front for women.

One of the major problems facing our part of the world is amnesia. We easily forget that some women have sacrificed so much to give us the things we are taking for granted today.

We as Ghanaian women are very proud to have revolutionary ancestors like Yaa Asantewaa and others. We still need solidarity and activism to achieve our gender equality goal.

We must walk shoulder to shoulder as the suffragettes did 100 years ago. But it's important that we come together .Women's day is about celebration, it's about being together, it's about sisterhood.

We need to embark upon a non-violence revolution to achieve gender equality and to defend women's rights, we strongly feel It's time to redress the bias of statues and memorials towards women. Moving forward, we want to see more statues of Helen Suzman, Yaa Asantewaa, Eunice cofie, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Hawa Yakubu, Mary Grant, Theresah Amerley Tagoe etc.

We urge all men to be feminists from today.
