A Women's Supporters Union of Ghana (WOSUGHA) has been officially inaugurated at a colourful ceremony in Accra. The female-dominated body, which has been in existence for about two years, was formed to provide support for all women's national teams at major sporting events. D.S.P Grace Armah of the Ghana Prisons Service, chairperson for the ceremony at the inauguration of the 13-member Executive Committee advised the members to eschew factionalism and forge ahead to project women sports in the country. She appealed to corporate bodies to support the activities of the Union and women's sports in general since according to her women sports has come of age and has become an integral part of the nation's sporting activities. The Prison Officer who is also a Patron of the Union advised the members to discharge their duties to their maximum best to achieve the desired and targeted goals. Madam Freda Prempeh, President of the newly inaugurated Union said their immediate objective is to provide the needed support for the national female team, the Black Queens during the forthcoming FIFA Women's World Cup scheduled for China in a fortnight's time. The Queens who will be making their third successive appearance at the female Mundial are in Group C alongside Australia, Canada and Norway during the September 10 - 30 championships. Madam Prempeh acknowledged the fact that most Ghanaians are not even aware of the participation of the Queens at the fifth edition of the World Cup and said that WOSUGHA will do everything to encourage more women to support lend their support. The President gave the assurance that some members of the group would be traveling to China to support the Queens instead of living the support to only their male counterparts as in previous championships. “The Black Queens need the total support of all Ghanaians, especially women and girls to inspire, motivate and cheer them to victory." Other Executive members of the Union include Vicentia Deku - First Vice President, Mrs Jamira Mahama - Second Vice President, Hajia Damata Sulemana - third Vice President, Madam Comfort Awunyo - Treasurer, Gifty Mills - Secretary and Dora Adomako - Assistant Secretary. The rest are Fredericka Mensa Davis - Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nana Antwi Baffuor - Director, Victoria Ahenkora - Organizer, Bernard Barnor Brooke - Assistant Organiser and Winifred Odarkor Mills - Assistant Treasurer.
