The Quaye Nungua Foundation has launched an initiative for the establishment of a world class medical facility at Nungua in Accra.The center which is in honour of the late Justice G.M. Quaye, a senior high court judge aims to boost medical tourism here in Ghana.The launch of the center was announced at his funeral Saturday, February 26, 2012.Dr. Emmanuel Quaye of the Carolina Pines Medical Center in the US is a member of the Quaye-Nungua Foundation and one of several doctors spearheading the initiative.He said “The Quaye-Nungua Medical Centre has been a project that family has been discussing for years. It actually started with Quaye Nungua himself; before he died, he gave us land to build the hospital; he actually pushed several of us to go into the medical field.”Dr Quaye said the facility will provide basic healthcare services, emergency care, “all the way up to tertiary care including surgical procedures that are not currently available in Ghana.”He the Foundation hopes to, within three years, build a standard medical facility.The late justice is said to have donated more than 20 acres of land to house the medical center.The funeral was attended by several judges of the Supreme Court and members of the bar.Acting Chief Justice, Justice Atuguba paid tribute to his colleague and pledged the support of the judiciary to the cause.Colleagues of the late Justice Quaye and lawyers describe him as probably the Supreme Court Judge who never was.He died at age 66 having served on the bench for 26 years. He is survived by a wife and three children.
