The Young Patriots, a youth wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have offered to partner the National Peace Council in a peace campaign ahead of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the election dispute on August 29th.
The group had petitioned the Supreme Court to summon President John Mahama and other National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists, whom they claimed made contemptuous comments following the invitation of NPP General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and party communicator, Hopeson Adorye to answer contempt charges.
However President of the panel of nine Judges hearing the 2012 election petition, Justice William Atuguba, announced on Wednesday their case had been referred to the National Peace Council.
Chairman of the Young Patriots Richard Nyamah told Joy News they were humbled by the events at the Supreme Court on Wednesday August 14, and would like to partner the National Peace Council in running a peace campaign ahead of the ruling.
"We are ready to submit ourselves to the Peace Council and if we have to be peace ambassadors within the next two weeks, and after the declaration of the verdict [we] will avail ourselves to the Peace Council", said Mr Nyamah.
He said although they are yet to receive word from the Council on their proposal, they are eagerly standing by.
On behalf of the Young Patriots, he expressed appreciation to the Judges for their handling of the contempt case against Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and Hopeson Adorye.
