An entrepreneurship expert has called on government to as a matter of urgency expedite action to solving the growing graduate youth unemployment in the country.
He said the unemployment situation among the youth is like a hurricane which has the tendency to plunge Ghana into chaos.
Kojo Parris, a Social Entrepreneur and a lecturer of Leeds University made the call at a round table discussion as part of the JA Africa Company of the year Competition which was on the theme Social Enterprise for Marginalized Youth in Accra.
The discussion was to highlight the core skills that the youth across Africa especially the unemployed and underemployed need to possess in order to thrive as social entrepreneurs and to provide a practical approach to harness the immense opportunity that exist on the continent.
It was also to underscore JA’s role in transferring financial literacy an entrepreneurial skills to the youth and facilitate their entry into the business sector.
The round table discussion provided an opportunity for participants to network and share best practices across JA country programs.
In a presentation to stress the contribution of Social Enterprises to society, Kojo Parris said Social Entrepreneurship can help curtail the massive unemployment situation in country if government invest or support organizations into that venture.
He added that the frustration of unemployment in the country make the venerable youth engage in narcotic trade, armed robbery and prostitution and other social vices just to make ends meet.
The entrepreneurship expert also urged corporate bodies to commit a percentage of their budget on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSI) to social enterprises in support of their work to change society.
Mr. Parris believes Social Entrepreneurship is the only way any individual can contribute his or her quota to nation building.
“If you and I want to make the world a better place, let build a social enterprise and make a change” Parris opined.
Kojo Parris encourage the young innovative JA Companies to consider making Social Entrepreneurship their priority to make an impact in their respective countries.
