Zidane directed his first official game as manager of Castilla with a derby defeat at the hands of Atlético B (2-1) in the first game of Segunda Division B's group 2 (Spain's third division).
The ex-Real player is officially Castilla's second manager, both when registering the team's official matches and on the club's website. The nº1 manager is Santiago Sánchez. However, the Frenchman is clearly the man in charge, as could be seen throughout the game's 90 minutes.
Zidane was on his feet outside the dugout for all the game, giving out orders to his players. The duel looked good for Zidane's team at first, with a goal for Castilla scored by Raúl de Tomas, who rocketed in a great shot from outside of the area on the 33rd minute.
However, Atlético didn't take long to make their comeback.
On the 55th minute, Dani Aquino headed in Atlético's equaliser and then just ten minutes later Samu Sainz went round various Castilla defenders before playing in Keita, who had lost his mark and duly slotted the ball home.
No more goals were scored, making it 2-1 for Atlético B and a disappointing debut for Zidane.
