Parents of two Rastafarian students denied enrolment by Achimota School say they will enrol their children at the school tomorrow June 7, 2021.

It follows the decision of the school to withdraw a stay of execution they had filed yesterday in an attempt to stop the students from enrolling on the back of their victory at the High Court on Monday.

Speaking on PM: Express last night, Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame disclosed that he had directed the school to enrol the students while they pursued an appeal.

 “Yes, an appeal will be proper since it will only lead to either a refinement of this ruling or perhaps a statement of it on soundness. Secondly, I say that even when the soundness or correctness position is being tested on appeal, there is no justification for a stay of execution to be filed. There ought not to be any act that would impede or hinder the education of the student in question.”

Father of Tyron Maghuy, one of the affected students welcomed the decision insisting he is ready to send his child to the Achimota School.

“We will have to talk and see if we do that tomorrow or maybe on Friday. We did not know we had to take them there tomorrow so we will make the necessary arrangements,” he said.

Tyron Maghuy says he also has his Achimota School uniforms ready and cannot wait to catch up.

“I can’t really wait to be in Achimota School. I’m getting used to the attention so I know how to handle it once I get to Achimota School.”

Meanwhile lawyer for the students, Wayoe Ghanamannti says they are ready to fight the appeal in court once the school files its processes.

“We as lawyers have some reservations. u see? The appeal we hope it doesn’t really continue so that the matter ends. But if it continues, it is going to be very good so that matters will be put into perspective," he told host Evans Mensah.

“So it’s going to be very interesting when we go on the appeal because we will go on the appeal which is like a re-hearing. The appellate courts will look at all the submission that we have made so when Ghanaians get the ruling that has come, if Ghanaians who understand the law will know that the judge concentrated only on the violations of the right," the lawyer stated.
