Two persons suspected to have shot a police officer and robbed other road users on Tuesday dawn have been apprehended by the police.
The suspects, who have been identified as Sumaila Osmanu Sulley, 29, and Musah Adams, 31, were arrested on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Kponvie barrier near Ho during a routine police check at the barrier.
The police officers, during their inspection of a commercial vehicle, saw a sack which attracted their attention.
Whilst interrogating the driver, one of the suspects alighted and took to his heels, but the police were quick to arrest him. The other suspect was then arrested.
Upon searching the sack, three locally manufactured guns, twelve cartridges, three flashlights, a dagger and a cash amount of Ȼ530 were found.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, who confirmed the incident to Daily Guide added that the suspects are believed to be linked to a large group of armed robbers who often pitch camp on the dangerous and isolated portions of the Ho-Adidome road.
Shooting of Police Officer
DCOP Gyinae recounted that a day before the arrest of the suspects, one Corporal Emmanuel Awuah was shot by some unidentified armed robbers.
He said the officer was returning from his duty post at the Todome checkpoint at about 3:00 am that fateful dawn and that on reaching a spot between Tsibu and Agbate, the officer realised that the two vehicles ahead of him which were all trucks were stationary.
As a good police officer, he got down to check had caused the traffic since one of the trucks virtually blocked the road.
Immediately he got down and started walking towards the problem area he was shot in the thigh from the bush.
He fired back but the robbers fled.
According to DCOP Gyinae, occupants of the truck that had virtually blocked the road were robbed and an amount of Ȼ900 was taken from them.
