The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has hinted that President Akufo-Addo in his second term of office will commit to completing abandoned projects by his predecessors.
Delivering the 2021 budget statement in Parliament on Friday, March 12, he indicated that government will prioritise channelling its resources to completing existing infrastructural projects instead of committing to new ones.
According to him, abandoned projects do not only have a dire effect on the country's development but also cause financial instability to the economy.
“Every new budget invariably contains a host of new projects to be initiated at the expense of ongoing projects.”

“This puts pressure on our finances and also has historically resulted in arrears with many contractors not being paid on time for work done and escalating the overall cost of these projects.”
Over the years subsequent governments have been criticised by the Ghanaian public for abandoning projects that were started by previous administrations who for some reason could not complete these projects, hence, Akuffo-Addo's commitment to addressing the canker.
The evidence of this can be seen when recently, an uncompleted Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) maternity block had to be demolished for redevelopment.
The facility which has been abandoned for 44 years failed to meet the structural integrity test after an assessment by the construction firm tasked to ensure its completion.
Neglecting developmental project, according to him will be a thing of the past under the watch of President Akufo-Addo's administration.
“The focus of government for this year, therefore, is the fulfilment of existing commitments and completion, to the largest extent possible, of existing projects,” Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu added.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu further stated that Akufo-Addo's 2021 priorities will also include Covid-19 containment measures and vaccination exercise in stemming the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
The implementation of the Ghana CARES programe, he says appears on President Akufo-Addo's priority lists in ensuring socio-economic transformation.
