A 24-year old farmer from Assin Bosomadwe, has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment in hard labour, by a Cape Coast circuit court for defiling a 15-year-old Junior High School (JHS) girl.
Kwasi Otibo, the convict, also known as 'Kumchacha' has been in a secret sexual relationship with the victim for the past eight months.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea, by the court presided over by Ms. Audrey Kocuvie-Tay.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvanus Dalmeida, told the court that Otibo lived in the same neighbourhood with the victim and her step-father.
ASP Dalmeida said, on March 13, around 20:30 hours, the victim visited Otibo at his house where they had sexual intercourse.
The step-father later detected the sexual relationship between Otibo and the victim and confronted Otibo, who admitted the relationship.
ASP Dalmeida said the step-father later lodged a complaint at the Nyankumasi Police Station, where a form was issued to the victim for medical examination and endorsement by a medical officer.
He said the medical examination confirmed that the victim had been defiled and the accused person was arrested.
