Tragedy struck the University of Education, Winneba campus, when a level 300 sandwich student collapsed and died in the Finance Office of the University on Monday.A source from Public Relations Department of the University gave the name of the student as Samuel Baidoo of the Guidance and Counseling Department.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview on Thursday, the source said on Monday morning Mr Baidoo went to the Finance Office of the University to negotiate for payment of his school fees.
This followed a decision that students who had not paid their fees would not be allowed to take their semester examination.
The source said the University took that decision because in most cases many students refused to pay arrears of fees when they completed their courses and this has resulted in the University losing huge sums of money.
While negotiating with the finance officers, Baidoo collapsed and died.
Sandwich students pay between GHc500.00 and Ghc650.00 per semester, depending on the type of courses.
His body has been deposited at the Winneba Government Hospital for autopsy.
