Eastern Regional minister, Ambassador Victor Smith says if he is retained in government his main goal will be to partner with private companies to invest in recycling waste to generate power.
He says he is in touch with some companies in the US where he visited recently to under-study the various ways solid and liquid waste can be put to proper use.
He was speaking to Joy News in an interview on sanitation in the region.
Even though the Eastern region is generally considered clean, it has its own share of sanitation challenges.
Tetteh observed that toilet facilities are inadequate in the area and waste disposal is also a major problem.
He added places like Suhum and Odumase Krobo which have major markets face challenges with waste disposal.
Regional Minister, Ambassador Victor Smith told Joy News if he gets the nod to serve under the John Mahama administration, he will partner private enterprises to recycle waste into the production of electricity.
In the regional capital, Koforidua the only landfill site is located at the new campus of All Nations University, a situation the Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben described as inadequate.
Meanwhile, ZOOMLION which has been leading various campaigns to clear the country of its waste has announced a package for Municipal Assemblies which are keeping proper sanitation in the areas.
Eastern Regional Manager of ZOOMLION, Ernest Kusi told Joy News this is part of incentives introduced by the company for this year.
