Acting Eastern Regional Minister Emmanuel Victor Smith has lashed out at owners of media houses in Ghana for their inability to pay their workers well and also provide the necessary logistics that will enable them work professionally and efficiently.
According to Mr. Smith, almost all media owners in the country have failed to ensure the vibrancy and efficiency of the Ghanaian media.
He said most journalists in Ghana are underpaid while others are not paid at all, a situation which he described as a recipe for disaster in the country since such journalists could be compelled to find other ways to survive, namely means that compromise their professionalism.
Mr. Smith made these comments at a press soiree organized by the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council in Koforidua.
He noted that journalists in advanced countries have shown quality in their work because they are well catered for and well resourced. He stressed that it is only when a journalist is better positioned to do his job that he bring out issues that can influence decision making in society.
